The famous American industrialist, and pioneer of the assembly-line, Henry Ford brought cheap consumer goods to the American public and helped put the automobile within the financial grasp of the working man.

In doing so, he revolutionised American culture, and Ford has become one of a small handful of super-brands so ubiquitous and omni-present, that it would be near-impossible to hunt down an individual who did not recognise it; nor is it easy to imagine a world where the word does not immediately conjure up images of motor vehicles.  Every person reading this can close their eyes and visualise that prosperous signature framed in blue oval.

Topical Fish 2: Grand Claims

As soon as I read a piece about Stephen Hawking’s new book Grand Design I could almost predict the response to come. In this book, Stephen Hawking revises a claim that he made in A Brief History Of Time. In his bestseller, he states: “If we discover a complete theory, it would be the ultimate triumph of human reason — for then we should know the mind of God.”

In the new volume, however, Hawking now claims that there are models of the universe which do not necessarily need a God to “light the blue touch paper” of creation. Everything we see around us could have quite happily have sprung into existence without Him.
